About Us

RCLC has been an independent charity since 2007.

RCLC has over 20 years of experience in supporting hard-to-reach refugee and migrant women. 

In 2023-24, we supported 507 women from 41 different countries. We have been involved in a number of research studies that show improving English skills and forming social connections significantly enhance the well-being and integration of vulnerable ethnic minority women.

Services

Our services include:

  • English Language Classes: Improve your English and gain confidence.
  • Skills Development: Build new skills in maths, IT, sewing and more.
  • Social Integration: Make friends, volunteer locally, and become part of the community.
    • Outreach programme: Receive 1:1 advice and support tailored to your needs.
  • Crèche Services: Access free childcare for under 5’s while you learn.

    Where it all began

     

    Mid 1990s – RCLC starts working with vulnerable migrant women as part of the Workers’ Education Association

    2007 – RCLC is established as a standalone charity

    2015 – RCLC moves to current premises in central Reading

    2018 Nominated for the Pride of Reading Award in the category of Charity Of The Year

    2018 – Report into the needs of ethnic minority women in Reading published with the University of Reading

    2020 – the Covid pandemic forces all learning to go online

    2021–2022 – Tackling health inequalities in Reading: Community Participatory Action Research published

    2022- RCLC Wins New Directions College’s Subcontractor’s Award

    2023 – funding awarded from the National Lottery

    2024 – RCLC named as Reading Mayor’s Charity of the Year

    2023 RCLC Wins New Direction College’s Subcontractor of The Year Award

    2023- RCLC awarded a renewal of their Safe and Sound Good Governance Award

    2023- New Community Researcher toolkit launched by Uni of Reading 

    VENUE HIRE

    Rooms at RCLC are available to hire from 3pm on termtime weekdays, and at any time during weekends and school holidays (outside our ten week terms). Our building is centrally located in Reading, with its own entrance and four large bookable classrooms.

    P/T Centre Manager

    We have a new and exciting opportunity to join our team.

    We’re looking for a passionate and experienced Centre Manager to lead the day-to-day operations of our Centre. This is a rewarding opportunity for a motivated woman with a strong background in community work, education, or charity management who is ready to make a meaningful impact.

    Working closely with the CEO, the Centre Manager will help shape the delivery of our programmes, ensure smooth operations, and lead a team of volunteers and manage staff in the absence of the CEO.
