Our Intermediate English learners enjoyed an inspiring and practical personal safety and self-defence workshop delivered by Soar With Us CIC, an organisation dedicated to helping people develop the awareness, skills and confidence to protect themselves.
The interactive session introduced learners to simple, effective techniques focused on recognising potential threats, maintaining a safe distance, using body language and voice, and responding to challenging situations.
The workshop demonstrated that self-defence is not about physical strength, fitness or martial arts experience. Instead, it is about developing awareness, confidence and practical skills that women of different ages and abilities can use.
For many women attending RCLC, particularly those who have experienced isolation, language barriers or a lack of confidence in unfamiliar environments, feeling safe and independent is an important part of their wellbeing and integration into the wider community.
Our learners enthusiastically participated in the activities, supporting one another, practising techniques and enjoying the opportunity to learn something new together.
The workshop follows a successful introductory session delivered by Soar With Us to RCLC staff and volunteers in September 2026.
A huge thank you to the Soar With Us team for delivering such a valuable, engaging and empowering session. We are delighted to be working together to help women build confidence, independence and a greater sense of personal safety.
