Reading Community Learning Centre (RCLC) is delighted to celebrate two special achievements at the Grassroots Community Awards 2026, held on Thursday 29th October at Reading Council Chambers, as part of Black History Month.
The awards, organised by Utulivu Women’s Group and ACRE, recognised the contributions of individuals, volunteers and grassroots organisations who work tirelessly to support and bring communities together.
We are incredibly proud that two members of the RCLC family received awards:
🏆 Lifetime Achievement Award – Sarah Del Tufo, Chair of RCLC
🏆 Outstanding Volunteer Award – Mei Chun Chau, RCLC Volunteer
Celebrating Sarah and Mei Chun
Sarah’s longstanding commitment to supporting women, championing equality and strengthening communities has made a lasting difference. Her leadership, dedication and generosity of spirit are greatly valued by everyone at RCLC, and we are thrilled to see her contribution recognised.
Mei Chun is a much-valued member of our volunteer team whose kindness, dedication and willingness to help others reflect the very heart of RCLC. Like so many volunteers, she gives her time generously without expecting recognition, making this award particularly special.
Celebrating the Power of Grassroots Organisations
As a small, independent charity, these awards mean a great deal to us. They highlight the vital role that grassroots organisations, community leaders and volunteers play in supporting people, tackling inequalities and creating more inclusive communities.
At RCLC, we see this impact every day through the women we support, helping them develop confidence, learn new skills, build friendships and access opportunities that can transform their lives.
We are fortunate to work alongside so many wonderful local organisations and partners who share our commitment to supporting communities across Reading. These partnerships enable us to reach more people, share resources and make a greater difference together.
The theme of this year’s awards, “Honouring Our Communities”, was a fitting reminder of the importance of recognising those who contribute so much, often behind the scenes.
Thank You!
A heartfelt thank you to Utulivu Women’s Group, ACRE and everyone involved in organising the Grassroots Community Awards for bringing people together and celebrating the incredible work taking place across Reading.
Congratulations to all the winners and nominees, and especially to Sarah and Mei Chun. We are so proud of you both and grateful for everything you contribute to RCLC and our wider community.
Together, we are stronger! 💜
