Since 2018, RCLC has built a warm and lasting friendship with the Swallowfield Village Coffee Club after the group generously donated proceeds from their summer fundraising to support our work. To thank them, RCLC organised a cultural exchange afternoon with tea, Asian sweets, and shared stories, creating meaningful connections between local residents and our learners. It also gave learners a valuable opportunity to practise their English in a welcoming and relaxed environment with native speakers.
Over the years, this relationship has continued to flourish, with annual visits becoming a much-loved tradition for our learners. These visits offer far more than tea and cake, they provide a sense of belonging, friendship, confidence, and community. Learners benefit from informal English conversation, cultural exchange, and the chance to build connections outside the classroom, helping to reduce isolation and strengthen their confidence in everyday communication.
In 2026, women from RCLC’s English Classes visited Swallowfield once again for a morning of tea, coffee, and delicious homemade cakes. The visit was filled with warmth, laughter, and heartfelt conversations, as people from different cultures and backgrounds came together to share stories, experiences, and traditions. The kindness and genuine welcome shown by the volunteers created a truly special atmosphere where everyone felt valued and included.
RCLC would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the amazing volunteers at Swallowfield Village Coffee Club who generously gave up their time to welcome us so warmly, share their wonderful baking and sumptuous tea, and continue building bridges of friendship, understanding, and community across cultures and languages.
